Waking up to a room full of balloons--he's 5!
Blowing out his candles
This year is he loving Pre-K and really loving his teacher Mrs. Armstrong. He is doing wonderfully scholastically--he can write all of his letters and is starting to spell. He is learning to read and loves it. He's come a long way with his speech but still has some difficulties in big groups. Little by little, he's doing better but is continuing to work with a speech therapist.
He and Grace are simply hilarious together. They are best friends and love each other until they don't :) They both have wonderful imaginations and come up with elaborate games to play. Jake loves to play dress-up--mainly Captain Hook and doctor. He lines up all of his stuffed animals and checks them out with his doctor's kit--he says he wants to be a heart doctor. He also LOVES legos just like his daddy. He impresses me because he can put together kits for 7-12 year olds. The other day I asked him how he put together a garbage truck and he seriously said, "I just followed the directions, Mom." :)
His heart is doing great right now! At his last check-up, the stenosis was still in the moderate range and hadn't gotten worse. We are so thankful! We pray that year 5 will be surgery free! He still gets tired quicker than his peers and sweats easier, but has no restrictions right now.
What I am proudest of Jake for is his praying heart. I think God has gifted him with encouragement and compassion because of what he's been through. Back in November, our friend Anna was in a serious wreck. Jake has not missed a day remembering to pray for her and always asks who else needs prayers. He is so tender-hearted.
I can't believe he's 5 but am so thankful for the past 5 years. We love to celebrate Jake and are thankful for all he teaches us everyday!
