Jake is out of surgery (about 6 hrs. 45 min.) and headed to a CVICU room. We talked with Dr. Heinle and Jake did very well. He removed the membrane and some surrounding tissue around the aortic valve (it was a very thick membrane) and made a repair on the mitral valve. We'll go in to see him in about half an hour after they have completed the dressings. We'll be taking shifts to stay with him through the night. He'll be sedated much of the next 24 hours but will have much to mad about when he awakes. Please keep praying that he remains stable as each step in the ICU may seem like an inch but (removing breathing tube, coming into consicousness, removing critical monitoring lines, etc.) these events are miles in the recovery phase. One of the reasons TCH pediatric cardiology/heart surgery is the top 3 in the country is because of the great care (primarily the great nurses) in the CVICU. These nurses are the best and it is an honor to watch them do their job.
Again, thank everyone for the prayers and we'll post some pictures when we can.
