Middle of the night

Ty and I are taking turns sitting with Jake tonight. I slept first in our room at the Ronald McDonald House (on the 4th floor) for about 3 hours and then came back up to ICU. Ty left about an hour ago for his "nap." I'm so appreciate each surgery of Ty and for his compassion for Jake. Since he's had heart surgery himself, he often knows better than I Jake's needs and understands how's he's hurting and why.

About midnight, they had a scare because Jake experienced Supraventricular tachycardia where he had an extremely high heart rate and then caused his blood pressure to drop dangerously low. The nurse noticed immediately (in the CVICU each patient has his/her own nurse who stays in the room constantly) and called the doctor. They gave him meds to regulate and it stabilized. They also put him on a temporary pacer which he is already off of now. They had to put the pads on his chest because there was a chance they would need to use the paddles to shock his heart, but thank God they didn't need to do that. His blood pressure now is too high and they've worked all night adjusting his meds to fix that. They are discussing giving him blood now because his hemoglobin levels are low. His nurse, Julius, (who we love) said all of this will definitely all keep in in ICU another day. He's being monitored very closely and a several cardiologists have come by to check on him.

Jake hasn't slept much tonight...he's pretty restless and is constantly asking for water. I know his throat is so sore and dry. He was allowed water about 2 a.m. and insisted on holding the cup himself. Jake's always been independent (stubborn) and heart surgery definitely magnifies that. I know he's basically just plain mad tonight.

I'm just excited now because the next time he wakes up, it's after 5:00 a.m. and Disney Junior will be on TV. That might put him in a better mood!

Ty will be back around 7:00 and then I'll get a nap again and a shower. My parents are bringing Gracie girl up today to see us and then taking her to the zoo with Pops and Nonnie. I need a little sleep to have energy to see her :)

We will keep praying for a smooth recovery for Jake. Jack prays for him often and can't wait for him to come back to school.
