I think this is truly the most wonderful time of the year! The kids are at such fun ages for Christmas fun and we're enjoying new and old traditions this year! Two years ago I made a countdown Christmas tree calendar, and so I've gotten that put out this year with activities for everyday leading up until Christmas. We also added the Elf on the Shelf this year, and I'm not sure who loves it more--me or the kids. They named him Gilbert after our old dog, and the kids can't wait to get up every morning to see what kind of mischief he's gotten into during the night.
Here's a recap of the first week of the Christmas season:
Day One: The kids got to meet Gilbert the elf!
Day Two: I took the kids to see the new Muppet movie with our friends Grayson and Isaiah. They loved the "puppet" movie, and I REALLY loved it :) It definitely brought me back to lots of childhood memories and had great 80s music and references. That night, we brought dinner to our dear friends, the Ciufos. Their daughter Anna was in a very serious bus crash before Thanksgiving and although she is now doing much better, she still has a long road ahead of her with more surgeries and lots of therapy on her foot and leg. Anna and her sister Leah are really the main babysitters we've used for Jake and Grace. They are the most precious girls I know and the kids are enamored with them. Jake has diligently prayed for Anna each day and made her lots of cards. We continue to pray for her recovery!

Day Three:
We had an exciting Saturday at Old Town Spring! The kids got to see Santa and get pictures with him. Jake asked for a timer--he means an alarm clock. That's really what he wants--a lego alarm clock (Santa was definitely puzzled by Jake's request--I'm pretty sure that's the first 4 year old he's had ask for an alarm clock)....and Grace asked for a sparkly pink bike. We also had lunch with our new friends, the Ward's who recently moved here from Ft. Worth and were friends with Mark and Destin there.

That night we found Gilbert going for a spin on the fan:
Day four:
Ty was sick so the kids and I went to church and then had a lazy rest of the day! We had hot cocoa and played games!

Gilbert had a tea party with Grace's dolls and animals that night:
Day Five:
We watched Charlie Brown Christmas and ate popcorn in front of the fire on this cozy, rainy evening! Gilbert was super mischievous and decorated our deer:
Day six:
We went to school and then after school went shopping for our two kids from the Angel Tree that we picked at church. I picked a girl and a boy so J and G could start to understand the importance of giving to others and hopefully begin to realize the true spirit of Christmas. It was a cold day so after shopping we stopped at Starbucks for hot cocoa! I love that they have kid's sized hot chocolate and its temperature controlled for them :) Yum!
We caught Gilbert driving the tricycle up the stairs!
Day Seven:
We were supposed to make Christmas cookies but Mommy ran out of steam after work :) We had a nice family dinner instead! That night we discovered Gilbert watching Charlie Brown Christmas and eating popcorn! He's such a night owl :)
Hooray for Christmas traditions, family, and of course, Gilbert the elf!
