Happy Birthday Jake!

I am four days late at posting Jake's birthday post, but I'm quickly realizing Jake has just gotten busier since turning one and there are fewer times to use the computer these days! Friday, the 1st, was his first birthday which is so hard to believe. In some ways I feel Jake has always been with us as he fills our lives with such excitement and joy. In other ways, it feels like yesterday that Dr. Turner delivered him. We are "formally" celebrating his birthday this coming weekend with a party. My parents couldn't be here this weekend so it got postponed a week. On his actual birthday, he and I spent the day together and then Al and Jonesa came to have dinner and cake with Ty, Jake, and me. Here are some pictures of him eating his cake and opening a few gifts:

I've discovered that Jake loves those musical cards. He played with one Ty got for his birthday last summer until he recently wore out the battery. Ty's card was actually Steve Carell from The Office talking and it made Jake laugh. He has such a mature sense of humor :) I got him this Superman card and he opened it OVER and OVER again to hear the Superman anthem. No need for presents when you have fun cards!

I made him a cake Friday so he could have cake on his actual birthday, and he dove right into it! He picked the entire piece up and smashed it into his face. This kid LOVES to eat :)

Here Jake is after cramming a good bit of cake into his mouth! Happy as can be :)

After we washed the cake out of his hair and got him in his jammies, we let him open a couple of presents. This St. Patrick's Day hat is from Grandma Jonesa. She and I were shopping in Toys R Us with Jake last week, and he picked it up and played peek-a-boo with it for a good 30 minutes so of course she bought it for him. After all he is a McCathran (although Ty says the McCathran's are Scottish not Irish, I think its pretty close!) Jake makes a pretty cute little Leprecon!

We have been so blessed by Jake this past year, and we can't wait to watch him grow and learn more and more this next year. Happy Birthday baby Jake!
