Celebrating Ty

Ty's birthday fell on the Saturday before Father's Day this year so we had much to celebrate! Saturday we had a really nice family day. I brought Ty breakfast in bed with his favorite Starbucks' coffee and then the kids gave him their gifts. Jake got Ty a new Lego set to play with him. We swam and played in the pool and had blueberry cheesecake...yum! Sunday we got to celebrate Father's Day with Ty's 91 year old Grandad as well. His Grandad spent most of the meal recounting war stories for Ty which was incredible to hear about it!

I am so thankful for Ty! He is an incredible husband and dad. He works so hard for the family and is so good at what he does as an engineer. I'm just so proud of him and what he's accomplished. I love that he now spends hours building Legos with Jake and Grace. They LOVE building with their Daddy. If I'm not careful, I'm going to end up with two more engineers :)

Ty's so great with the kids and has been great about spending Tuesday and Thursday nights entertaining the kids while I've tutored this Spring. They both get so excited for "Daddy time" :)

Ty has a servant heart. He's quiet but constantly thinking about helping others. He's great about visiting people in the hospital and helping with all things heart related. He's now on the board of It's My Heart and works hard to help others cope with having a CHD. He has researched and researched about Jake's condition and is always patient to re-explain things to me over and over again. He's Jake's biggest advocate, and Jake is one blessed kid to have Ty for his dad.

Ty is totally smitten with Grace :) I don't think he realized how much Grace would wrap him around her little finger. She is Daddy's princess, no doubt. This morning she told me Daddy is her prince charming. I see many tea parties in his future :)

June 21st was also the 15 year anniversary of Ty's open heart surgery. I wish I would have celebrated that more and I apologize for not doing so. In the future, I think we're going to start celebrating all of Jake's "heart days" as well as Ty's. What a great chance to praise God for his healing power! Who knew 15 years ago the heart journey Ty would have. I know Ty would not have chosen this path, but I wholeheartedly believe he has used this trial as an opportunity to serve God. I've heard Ty's mom often say, "God doesn't waste a scar," and what a true statement it is. Ty has used his scar to help his own son and so many others cope with the world of CHD.

Jake, Grace, and I are incredibly blessed to have Ty! We love you very much!
