Jake is officially happy and feeling better again! I think he has more energy and enthusiasm about life in general than before the whole virus episode. Maybe being in the hospital made him appreciate home a little more or maybe he just finally feels better...either way, we'll take it!
After surgery when he was feeling so down, I didn't feel too enthused either. We'd pretty much given up at my attempt of Mommy pre-school because he didn't care and as a result, he and Grace probably watched way too much TV for those few weeks. That was his constant request so I just let him watch lots of cartoons.
Now that I feel we have the real Jake back again, we are doing pre-school on speed to go over all of the letters he's missed to hopefully have him ready to rejoin his class next Wednesday. We go Monday for a check-up and echo with Dr. Altman and then hopefully she'll clear him for school, speech, BSF class, etc...Jake loves learning about letters and right now really loves learning to spell words to I'm trying to take advantage of that interest and do activities with V, W, and X this week. He already knows all of his letters and their sounds, but we're working more on writing them and doing fun activities with each one. I've been so impressed this year with Jake's mother's day out, Woods Edge and how creative his teachers have been! Each week was a different letter and he came home with all kinds of great crafts each week.
We've covered "V" this week and will do "W" and "X" next...
(In college I went to a Wednesday night Bible study with my friends at the College church preacher's house (Bruce McClarty)...the highlight of each Wednesday was going around the room giving our highs and lows of the week.) So here are the highs and lows of our week so far:
We'll start with the LOWS:
*We were learning about "V" and talking about vegetables. I read an idea about using corn cobs as rollers to paint. I put paper on the easel and gave J and G a corn cob dipped in paint and let them have at it. Jake thought it was GREAT fun! Grace took a big bite of the corn dipped in paint. I took it away from her and tried to explain it was a paint brush...she sobbed, "Corn is to EAT, Mommy!" Sometimes my creative ideas aren't so great :)
*My FAVORITE two spring activities are taking bluebonnet pictures and going strawberry picking. Our friends went strawberry picking at a local farm this week but we had to sit it out b/c of Jake's extended time away from other kids. So, I thought we could at least take our bluebonnet pictures. It turns out they are already dead...we missed them! I took them to the park anyway yesterday and took these pictures with the sad, remaining flowers....

HIGHS:
Monday we had a good, little rain shower so we put on raincoats and rain boots and the kids had a blast jumping in puddles and dancing in the rain.

LOVED reading your highs and lows. I think you should do it every time you blog! The corn and the bluebonnet story both crack me up! You're such a good mommy!
Love the pictures! Wish I was there.
